Conveyancing solicitors negligence - failed to advise on lease liability

Mr G had taken out a lease over a commercial property and later assigned it to a company. The conveyancing solicitors failed to advise Mr G that the assignment of the lease would not release him from his personal liability for the rent. The company subsequently went into liquidation. Mr G’s landlord sought to recover the annual rent until the end of the lease from Mr G. Under a ‘no win, no fee’ agreement, Bell Lax successfully negotiated a settlement with the landlord and pursuaded the conveyancing solicitors’ insurers to pay the rent and Mr G’s legal costs.
