Commercial Litigation Solicitor

George obtained a First Class degree in Law with French, followed by a distinction in the Legal Practice Course, before training exclusively in dispute resolution at Bell Lax. George is a qualified solicitor, specialising in dispute resolution, including:

  • Construction disputes
  • Disputes over wills and probate
  • Shareholder & Director disputes, including insolvency
  • Contract Disputes
  • Commercial property disputes

With intense litigation training from the start of his legal career, George has an edge over many solicitors at the same stage of their career, and works at a level expected of much more senior lawyers at an attractively lower hourly rate.

He has been applauded by clients as “highly professional,” “excellent”, “exceptional” and “straight to the point” and prides himself on providing the right advice, at the right time, to get the right result.

George has significant experience across many areas of commercial and civil litigation, including high value breach of contract cases, insolvency matters, commercial and residential property disputes, multi-million pound construction disputes, landlord and tenant issues, and contentious probate cases.

Examples of his more recent work include:

  • Successfully and independently running a six-figure adjudication for defective work during the construction of a large hotel in Cardiff.

  • Representing one of our large construction clients in multiple overlapping adjudications, including smash and grab adjudications, adjudications for defective works and adjudications for delays across several large contracts.

  • Advising a high net worth individual who was pursuing a debt of over £3 million on complex insolvency matters concerning the debtor.

  • Appealing a liquidator’s decision and pursuing a £140,000 claim on behalf of a Bell Lax client in a significant and complex insolvency case.

  • Pursuing a claim against a co-administrator of an Estate who was refusing to vacate and sell an Estate property.

  • Representing clients in numerous high value construction adjudications, including the entirely successful defence of a £1.2million adjudication concerning a large hotel project in Leicester Square, London. The Referring Party argued that our client’s work was significantly defective, and sought to recover the sum of £1.2 million from our client in damages. We successfully argued that it was the design (which was not our client’s responsibility) and not the works, which were at fault.

  • Pursuing a Counterclaim on behalf of a residential customer whose significant double storey extension was largely defective. The contractors claim for unpaid invoices was unsuccessful, George having argued that the variations formed part of the original contract works. The dispute ultimately settled the week before trial, entirely in favour of our client.

  • Obtaining court orders to enforce a Final Decision of the Financial Ombudsman. This is an unusual application to make with various hurdles to overcome and George successfully obtained a court order on behalf of our clients.

  • Enforcing adjudications by applying to the Technology and Construction Court to obtain orders for summary judgment. He recently did this successfully on a complex case worth £1.5 million involving various technical legal arguments on the enforceability of adjudicator’s decisions.

  • Successfully knocking out multiple adjudication attempts on behalf of a client on the basis of jurisdictional grounds alone. The Referring Party were ultimately persuaded not to pursue the claim having being unable to overcome the legal hurdles which George argued.

George regularly appears in Court in Chambers or at Case Management Hearings. He also successfully attended an appeal hearing, usually reserved for Barristers with Higher Rights of Audience, on behalf of one our clients.

George is commercially astute and appreciates that it is rarely in a client’s best interests to pursue a case all the way to trial. He is familiar with all aspects of alternative dispute resolution, including mediation, and will seek to negotiate a favourable settlement when possible.

Outside work, George enjoys rock climbing, keeping fit and the great outdoors. He is married and has two young daughters. He is a member of the Lawyer’s Christian Fellowship and active in his local church.
