A press release from the Ministry of Justice advises that Court fees will change in early April. While most fees will increase, there are some decreases.

If you are considering legal action, you may be aware that a Court fee is payable when you issue your claim. Further fees may be payable to the Court throughout the case, e.g. when making an application via a consent order, when making an application for summary judgment etc.

On 26 February, the Ministry of Justice issued a press release in which they stated that, subject to parliamentary approval, 171 court and tribunal fees will increase and 24 court and tribunal fees will decrease. Of the 171 fees due to increase, most will see an increase of approximately 3%, with some fees increasing by 13.5%.

The press release advises that The Help with Fees remissions scheme remains available for those with lower financial means who are unable to afford a court or tribunal fee.

The intention is for the changes to apply to applications made on or after 1 April 2025.

A full list of the changes can be found here.
