“I take a keen interest in complex, high value matters and have a relentless focus on achieving a commercially advantageous result for my clients.”
Qarrar qualified as a Solicitor Advocate in 2014 having previously had experience in a varying range of litigation roles.
He graduated with a Masters in Commercial Law from the University of Birmingham in 2009, writing his thesis on Employer’s Liability for Work Related Stress.
During the early part of his career Qarrar had significant experience in dealing with Consumer Credit Act and Financial Services and Markets Act litigation. From 2011 he has been involved in all aspects of Civil Litigation and Chancery work, which now forms the bulk of his case load.
Qarrar likes to be commercially focused and enjoys thinking strategically to achieve clients’ desired outcomes. He appreciates the importance of ensuring clients’ objectives are carried out in a timely and cost effective manner. He is responsible for his own cases under the supervision of a Director. This autonomy allows him to manage all aspects of a case, while at the same time delivering a cost effective service for the Client. In addition, as a solicitor advocate, Qarrar has rights of audience in the Higher Courts, and regularly conducts his own advocacy, saving his clients the additional expense of instructing a barrister.
He is a member of the Solicitors’ Association of Higher Rights Advocates and The Law Society’s Advocacy Section. In the dynamic and changing world of Dispute Resolution Qarrar ensures his problem solving skills are employed effectively in Alternative Dispute Resolution (“ADR”). Litigation at times can be a blunt tool and therefore with the effective use of ADR, Qarrar has found settlements can be achieved which would not be possible in Court. Qarrar has participated in several mediations and resolved numerous disputes by way of oral and written negotiations.
Qarrar has worked on a number of varied and challenging cases. One notable case he successfully pursued on behalf of a former company director involved the recovery of significant racing car assets worth in excess of £100,000 through the High Court. The matter settled on the morning of the Trial with a significant recovery for the Client. He has also successfully arbitrated an alleged breach of a construction contract worth over £500,000, resulting in a significant payment to the Client.
Qarrar has also successfully pursued two former company directors for misfeasance on behalf of liquidators of the company, both resulting in successful settlements.
Qarrar assisted a partner at his previous firm to obtain summary judgement in a half a million pound contractual dispute shortly after pleadings were exchanged. He has previously also assisted in Section 994 applications to the Companies Court where the interests of minority shareholders were being harmed. In addition to this he also assisted in defending Section 423 applications under the Insolvency Act.
Qarrar is multi-lingual and in addition to English he can also speak Gujarati, Urdu and Swahili.
In his spare time he takes an interest in cricket, tennis and F1 and likes to go to the gym. He enjoys reading fantasy fiction and is a fan of the works of J.R.R. Tolkien and classical music.
