Jonathon joined the firm in September 2008. Prior to becoming a solicitor he had served as a police constable with Staffordshire Police.
Jonathon’s experience in resolving disputes and dealing with difficult situations helps him to consider the bigger picture and find new approaches to solving his client’s problems. Jonathon has a particular interest in employment cases and claims against solicitors arising from employment disputes. This interest led to Jonathon recently appearing on a BBC Radio 4 programme focusing on employment rights issues and how they affect both employees and employers.
Jonathon has acted for numerous employers and employees. He has acted for employees on a ‘no win, no fee’ basis in cases of unfair dismissal through redundancy, unfair dismissal, sex discrimination, race discrimination, age discrimination, unfair deduction of wages and failing to consult under the TUPE regulations.
At a fully contested employment tribunal where Jonathon represented an employee client against two separate Respondents, Jonathon achieved a settlement of in excess of £30,000.
Jonathon has fought technical points of law at the employment tribunal, including ensuring that an employee client was able to bring her claim against a well known firm of administrators as well as the company in administration.
For employer clients, Jonathon has advised on the correct procedures for dismissal and redundancy and has prepared employment contracts and staff handbooks.
Recently, Jonathon has represented a local business which had been sued for a number of claims including unfair dismissal, for an amount in excess of £70,000. Following cross examination, the Claimant withdrew his claim in its entirety half way through a four day trial.
Outside the employment field, Jonathon has represented clients in matters of professional negligence, landlord and tenant disputes, rights of way issues, property disputes, construction matters, disputes with insurance companies and contentious probate matters.
Jonathon has recently successfully appeared as solicitor advocate for a client against a local authority in a fully contested county court trial.
Jonathon has acted for clients involved with health and safety issues and has appeared as solicitor advocate for the Defendant in proceedings brought by the Health and Safety Executive.
Outside work Jonathon is a keen golfer and runner who has completed a number of half marathons. Jonathon is aiming to complete his first triathlon next year.
